Expenses keep rising. Heating bills are no exception. Here are some ways that might help cut down on your bill this winter.

Seal up cracks or openings around doors and windows. You don’t want cold air to unnecessarily slip in or your warm heat to slip out. Consider winterizing your windows, especially older ones that may not have storm windows. During sunny days, open your blinds and curtains to allow the sun to naturally warm up the rooms. But make sure to cover them up at night to hold that heat in. Make sure your furniture is not placed right up against or covering radiators or furnaces. Allow space for the warm air to circulate into the room. Use area rugs on hard floor surfaces to help retain heat. If you have ceiling fans, keep them on a low speed going clockwise in direction. This will help circulate downward the warm air that floats up into the room.

A very simple way to save money on heating is to wear more clothing. Some people love to wear shorts and a t-shirt and go barefoot all winter inside their home. But if you dress with some warmer clothes and socks or slippers, you can turn the thermostat down a bit.
