Your kitchen sink is invaluable. It enables you to wash your food, dishes, and hands. It is amazing how many times a day you actually turn on your kitchen sink faucet. You may take for granted how well the sink drains. But this does not happen without some proper sink rules. What does that mean? You need to be nice to your sink!

There are some things that just should not be put down your sink drain. For one thing, grease. If you cook bacon or have any other oil on pots or dishes, first use paper towel to wipe the grease off, and throw that in the trash. Warm grease may seem to slide easily down the drain, but once it cools, it will solidify and can cause some major issues in your pipes and septic system. It may form a “fatberg”, which is what it is called when grease and food chunks mass together.

It is important to use a sink strainer basket to catch food remnants before they slide down your drain. You can find these made from silicone or stainless steel. Both work well and can be cleaned in your dishwasher. The stainless steel may last you longer and won’t get food stains like the silicone ones.
