Appliances are a big part of our modern life. They help us out with nearly all of the daily tasks necessary to care for our basic needs – food, shelter, and clothing. Unfortunately, though, electrical appliances can also be a danger to our homes and our safety. For that reason and many others, it’s important to keep our appliances in good condition. What are some basic principles to keep in mind?
Maintain good ventilation. Most electrical appliances generate heat. For that reason, they usually also have vents and fans to keep the appliances cool. If the airways are blocked, your device can overheat which can result in things that range from minor appliance inefficiency to significant fire hazards.
Watch for electrical hazards. It’s no secret that water and electricity don’t mix. Or, they mix a little too well. The point is, try to keep your electrical appliances away from water sources if possible. Additionally, make sure all electrical cords and outlets are in good shape.
