For the next two blog posts, we’re going to turn our attention to the many gateways into your plumbing system – the drains that are part of your sinks, tubs, showers, and more. For our first post in this mini series, we want to encourage you to take good care of your drains (and by extension, your entire plumbing system) by refusing to pour fat or grease into them.

Fat and grease are exceptionally bad for any and all plumbing systems. As an extreme example of why this is the case, there are cities in England where giant ‘fatbergs’ of hardened fat, grease, and other debris were totally clogging the entire city’s septic system. Of course, something like this may not be your fate, but the possibility certainly exists that it could happen – to a lesser extent. A better option for getting rid of excess fat or grease is simply to let it cool down, and then toss the congealed mess into the trash.
